FASTalk helps families know what their children are learning and become empowered to support learning at home.

Building Partnerships Between Teachers and Families

Through FASTalk, Family Engagement Lab offers an equitable family engagement tool that builds partnerships between teachers and historically underserved families by sharing engaging, at-home activities in the family’s home language to reinforce classroom learning.

FASTalk Promotes Equity for Historically Underserved Families

All families are warmly invited to engage in learning in their home language. SMS messages with learning activities translate into 100+ languages, bridging two-way communication between school and home.
Students experience literacy gains, especially when parents do not share a home language with the teacher.

Any caregiver with access to a cell phone can engage. No computer or internet connection required. Families are automatically enrolled, no involved sign-up procedure is needed.

Messages are pre-scheduled for busy teachers and model inclusive communication.

As a parent I’ve definitely changed as the result of my work with FASTalk. I get the text messages, and I’m like, ‘OK, tell me about what you read today. You read about a character today? What did you learn about this particular character? Tell me about it.’ That conversation is powerful. It’s changing the way we look at literacy. We are all way more engaged in reading, way more engaged in the curriculum.
